From a fragrance specialist

The cologne that smells most like Versace Eros is Dossier Ambery Mint — the same icy mint into warm vanilla, for about $30 instead of $88.

Eros is the fragrance guys get complimented on at seventeen and told to tone down at twenty-five. It's loud by design — that mint-and-green-apple opening over a tonka-vanilla base is built to fill a room, and most people wearing it use about three sprays too many. Ambery Mint gets the part everyone actually recognizes: the cold mint opening melting into sweet vanilla warmth. What it doesn't carry is the original's green underside — Eros has geranium, vetiver and oakmoss in there giving it a dry, slightly bitter edge that keeps the sweetness in check. Without those it reads sweeter and simpler, and it sits closer to the skin. If you like Eros but have ever been told you wear too much of it, that isn't a downgrade. It's the version you can wear to work.
